What are the differences between the Ophthalmologist and Surgeon?

An Ophthalmologist is an eye specialized doctor performing ophthalmic procedures both medical and operational.

             A Surgeon is a specialized doctor performing both medical and surgical procedures. There are different fields of surgery such as general surgery, eye surgery, ENT(ear, nose and throat) surgery, orthopedic surgery, obstetric and gynecological surgery. Mostly, a general surgeon is well known among Thai. For other kinds of surgeons, they will be called as ophthalmologist, oto-rhino-laryngologist, orthopedist, obstetrician and gynecologist. Most people misunderstand that surgery must be operated by only surgeon.

             Also, mostly still understand that ophthalmologists are performing only eye diseases. Actually, they take care of eyes including eye surgery. So ophthalmologists are also the surgeon. On the other hand, ophthalmologists are the one who completely understand and specialize in eye surgery including a risk of eyes and also taking care well after an operation. Moreover, they are the most specialized comparing to other surgeons in eye disease complication such as eye muscles and eye tendons operation.
